There are plenty of things in life that go hand in hand; Music and dancing, Men and Football, Bread and Butter, Denim and Denim (and Denim), but our favourite right now is Sunshine and Espadrilles.
Yes espadrilles, those fantastically little slip on soles that will work wonders in brightening up the soul of even the darkest individual.
It’s a given that the British weather is more temperamental than Elton John, but on those days of sunshine we do experience what better way to celebrate in style.
Whether you’re donning a smart set of shorts in the park or your speedo’s around the pool, you’ll look amazing. And we just put an order in for the brightly coloured (and beautifully packaged) ones over at loveespadrilles.com (Our new best mates).
AC Slater’s ‘Take You’ feat. Ninjasonik dropped last week and this week we’re dropping the official video on you. Directed by T&B megadude Patrick “The Captain” Rood and featuring a where’s where of Brooklyn, the Trouble & Bass crew are out in full force. This track is a certified banger with remixes by Drop The Lime, Nadastrom and newcomers Tete-A-Tete.
As if you need another reason. Check out this talk by the dude who has done album artwork for Brian Eno, Lou Reed and the Talking Heads. He takes one year off every seven and attributes a large part of his creative output to activities pursued during the sabbatical year.
Prompted by the inflated headlines in today’s papers I felt it fitting to begin this regular blog posting with a little shout out to that beloved plant food: Mephedrone. ‘Meow Meow Killed My Boy… Don’t let it kill more kids’ read the headlines, as a grieving father tells of the pain caused by the ill-fated death of his son. more
I woke up this morning and twitter told me Alex Chilton was dead. He died of heart complications in an emergency room in New Orleans. He was scheduled to play at SXSW this weekend.
I moved to Montreal when I was 19 and got a French boyfriend who was obsessed with 70s punk. He played me Thirteen and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. It felt so familiar, even though I’d never heard it before. He then proceeded to nerd out at me about how cool the backing vocals sound and how they were played through a Leslie and all that (which is actually interesting), but all I could focus on was the lyrics and the bittersweet melody. This was a song I was always going to come back to.
Alex Chilton did lots of othe good stuff – he was in the Box Tops and had a bunch of chart hits, and September Gurls by Big Star is pretty rad too, but I think Thirteen is his masterpiece. I’ve just had it on repeat while writing this and it’s squeezing my little heart. RIP Alex Chilton. Thanks for your songs.
