O. Children get boxed in

O. Children are playing a live, online-only set tonight at 9pm. The Roundhouse in Camden will be broadcasting a series of live music shows throughout 2010 and tonight O. Children will be teaming up with Love Hate Productions (who produced the Dead Disco Dancer video) to create a visually and aurally unique experience. Trust us when we say it’s not to be missed.

A new wave of cocktails

Whichever city I end up in I always try and find a new flavour of booze. A kink of a classic loved by locals. In New York, Drop The Lime introduced me (thankfully) to the Perfect Manhattan.

I loved it. I came home, researched how to make the best Manhattan known to man or woman (key tip: Rye – I chose the Rittenhouse but I heard the Wild Turkey Rye was also good) and after four attempts hailed the perfect drink. Obviously I was pissed rotten and can’t remember much after that but God it was good.

So, the next experiment. Well, I came across a new batch of cocktails in the New York Times over the Christmas break and have to say that Gin Gin Mule looks rather tasty.

Pop Life Exhibition

An exhibit you simply can’t miss, the Tate Modern’s Pop Life profiles the rise of pop art in modern commercial culture.

Pop Life explores the way artists since the 80s have engaged mass media and cultivated their artistic personas or ‘brands’.

Expect representations from Tracey Emin, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Martin Kippenberger, Jeff Koons, Gavin Turk, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince.

We like the idea of signing a Norwegian super-group of sorts…

Featuring Richard Myklebust of Stereo21, Linn Frokedal and Njaal Clementsen both of post-kraut rockers The Low Frequency In Stereo and Fredrik Vogsborg of Casiokids/Syme, The Megaphonic Thrift casually merge noise and pop with their take of 21st Century shoegazing.

Despite being together for barely a year, they’ve been hailed as Norway’s Best New Live Act, with a sensational loudness that sees the kids challenge My Bloody Valentines mark.

Their debut EP is out on Deadly Records in December.
